Overview
Implementing an Effective Screening Programme for Lung Cancer
Details
This workshop is co-hosted by the Lung Cancer Policy Network, Asia Pacific Coalition against Lung Cancer, and Asia Pacific Policy Review and Engagement (ASPIRE) for Lung Cancer. It will equip participants with practical strategies and insights to advance or refine their screening programmes, helping them progress from planning to successful implementation. It will also be an opportunity for wider knowledge exchange and collaboration among regional leaders in screening.
The workshop will also feature compelling case study presentations, offering insights from diverse implementation journeys, including:
• Japan – Navigating the recent national recommendation for low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening
• Thailand – Advancing efforts towards securing government endorsement
• Malaysia – Launching lung cancer screening policy and guidelines to build momentum
• Taiwan – Designing a screening programme that includes people who do not smoke, and advocating for this eligibility criterion.
Utilising the Network’s implementation framework to facilitate and structure discussions, the workshop will focus on two priority topics for the region: eligibility and recruitment and workforce and technical capacity. The workshop will cover:
• methods for identifying and engaging target populations, and whether to include people who do not smoke
• strategies for engaging healthcare professionals in recruiting screening participants
• models for implementing screening within existing infrastructure capacity; for example, utilising X-ray and AI to increase capacity until LDCT screening is fully rolled out
• assessing workforce capacity for screening delivery.
